Gut Health & Functional Testing

NATUROPATHIC SERVICES · NORFOLK ISLAND

Getting answers your standard blood test wasn't designed to give you.

When a GP reviews your pathology, they're looking for disease — markers that fall outside a reference range broad enough to capture the sickest and the healthiest people in the population. If you land anywhere in between, you're told you're fine. Naturopathic interpretation works differently. We look at where your results sit within an optimal range, how individual markers relate to each other, and what patterns emerge across the full picture. Blood is drawn under particular circumstances, and results are often tracked over time. The same blood test can tell two very different stories depending on who's reading it and what they're looking for.

Functional testing takes this further. Where standard pathology identifies what is present or absent, functional testing assesses how the body is actually working — nutrient absorption, microbial diversity, functional gut markers, mineral status, metabolic function, toxic burden. It's the difference between knowing your iron is low and understanding why it's low, where the bottleneck is, and what it's affecting downstream. For people who have been told their results are ‘normal’ but still feel far from it, functional testing often provides the first real answers.

Gut Health & Microbiome Testing

The gut influences almost every system in the body — immunity, hormones, mood, cognition, skin, and energy. Comprehensive microbiome analysis through Microba Insight stool testing allows us to assess bacterial diversity, identify dysbiosis, and build a targeted plan based on what's actually happening in your gut, not just what your symptoms suggest.

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA)

HTMA assesses mineral status and heavy metal burden through hair tissue, providing a window into metabolic function that standard blood testing doesn't offer. Mineral imbalances and toxic metal accumulation have far-reaching effects on energy, mood, thyroid function, gut health, and neurological wellbeing — and are among the most commonly overlooked contributors to chronic, unresolved symptoms.
